G&T Programme

G&T Programme

Here at Macmillan Academy Post 16, we are highly committed to ensuring that every student acquires the best quality destination they are capable of. In particular, we identify the top 15% of students with the highest average GCSE grade as Gifted and Talented. These students have the highest predicted grades and often have the most potential to study the most competitive courses at the most prestigious universities in the country.

We aim to provide our Gifted and Talented students with the support they need to help them achieve beyond their full potential. This includes academic support to ensure students are meeting or exceeding their high target grades as well as support with their plans for higher education. We also provide advice and support for writing effective UCAS personal statements and organise mock interviews in preparation for any university interviews.

Every year we encourage as many students as possible to apply to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge; in the academic year 2018-19, an impressive five students from Macmillan Academy were invited for interview at the University of Cambridge.

Opportunities to experience their subjects outside and beyond the curriculum are vital for maximising the achievements of our Gifted and Talented students. We organise trips to universities for talks and lectures as well as encourage the students to attend subject taster days and residential visits offered by universities. We also offer the Extended Project Qualification here at Macmillan Academy which provides the opportunity to nurture interest beyond the curriculum and develop key research skills needed for higher education.
