Support

Support

Care, support and guidance is undoubtedly a strong feature of Post 16 at Macmillan.

We believe that by respecting and valuing all members of our sixth form community, and by providing the right balance of challenge and support, everyone can achieve success. We regularly review progress against expectations and ensure systems are put in place to support you should you fall behind. The Post 16 team will monitor your overall academic progress and ensure that support is provided to help you achieve the very best results. Your pastoral tutor will provides day to day contact, monitoring and support, along with academic tutoring meetings, and there is learning support & SEN help where needed.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

Mental health is a crucial aspect to the overall wellbeing of students. Young people of this age go through significant changes in their social, emotional, and cognitive development, which can impact their mental health. It is important for them to prioritise this and seek support when needed. Taking steps towards this such as engaging in regular exercise, maintaining a good diet and sleep routine as well as taking time to relax and seek therapy when needed can support students' health and develop good coping skills.

Within Post 16 here at Macmillan Academy we have a Health and Wellbeing Lead. Their role is to support the emotional and mental wellbeing of our students. This includes working closely with students to provide tools and resources they need to navigate the challenges of this stage in their lives. This mostly involves one to one sessions.

Students are encouraged to come with any concerns they may have not solely those related to exam stress or studies. This can cover anything that impacts on their health and wellbeing. Students can sign up to sessions themselves or if a member of staff or a parent has concerns they can also make contact.

Further to this, there is a focus on student physical health. As part of this our Health and Wellbeing Lead runs various fitness sessions weekly. As well as leading on events throughout the year including assemblies and workshops.
